Animal Masks

Masks depicting animals were common in the Venice Carnival (Carnevale).   Some, such as cat masks were worn extensively. 

However, a wide variety of animals were depicted in masks and as masks were worn by a large proportion of the population in Venice, novelty masks such as animal masks were something new and different when introduced and subsequently grew in popularity.  Since Venice was such a trade hub at the time, stories and examples of exotic foreign animals were well known.

Animal masks are still are a lot of fun to wear to an event.
