A beautiful hand painted Italian dinner plate in the 'Raffaellesque' design. This design features a pattern from ancient times when the 'silk trade' was in full swing. The oriental influence in this design is clear, with a pattern in blues covering the entire surface of the plate. It features a dragon in three places. A lovely and very traditional style.
The dinner plate measures 250mm in diameter and on the back of the plate the artist who painted it has enscribed by hand <MOD> which stands for 'Majolica of Deruta' (the name of the company who has made this plate) and then 'Deruta Italy' where the plates are made and the 'Dip. a Mano' which is short hand for 'Dipinto a mano' which translates as 'Painted by Hand'.
