November Update

Alan and KathyThis month we were sad to farewell our Marketing Assistant Peter who has taken off on his next travel adventure to eventually end up back in his home town in Denmark.  One of the many things that Peter helped us with during his time with us was a number of videos that we have launched on our YouTube Channel.  The most recent one is a great video featuring our Sales Associate Michelle with advice on how to apply make up to make the most of your Venetian Masquerade Mask if you are attending an event.

New Products Just In!

Ladies Italian Leather WalletsJust arrived from our supplier in the countryside just out of Rome are some beautiful new products, including these Italian wallets, leather key cases, smartphone cases, spectacle cases, key holders and passport holders.  We visited this supplier earlier this year and were very impressed with their manufacturing operation.  They only use the best Florentine leather that they obtain from a reputable local Italian supplier and it is beautiful quality.  In addition, we had the most fabulous lunch with them - a memorable carpaccio of beef with truffles ...

We may not have all of these products loaded up onto our website yet, but come in and have a look in our shop or look on our
Facebook online shop (where we put up our new products first). There are some fantastic gift ideas here for both men and women - beautiful Italian pens and more...

Also, a large order of Murano Glass is due in NEXT WEEK and a new order of Italian Stationery, just in time for Christmas - keep an eye on our Facebook Page for details!

Italian Story- Happy Italian Sheep!

Back in February of this year we featured a story about a New Zealander who ended up becoming a sheep farmer in Italy.

This month we pick up that theme again, but with a bit of a twist!

Sheep farming in Italy is so vastly different to what we are used to in New Zealand or Australia.  Firstly, the sheep are primarily there for their milk and secondly sheep dogs do not push the sheep along by barking or chasing them.  They seem to be a part of the flock and their primary function appears to be to protect them all from threats.

Italian Sheep on a rural road in AbruzzoWe were driving along a rural road not far from our little house in Abruzzo, Italy, and came across a flock of sheep right across the road.  Not an uncommon occurrence in New Zealand, except we are usually accustomed to finding a flock of several hundred sheep.  In Italy, the flock size might be 20 – 50.  These sheep were off on a mission to find new grass to forage on.  They looked happy enough, if a little browner than we are used to.  The shepherd, when seeing I had taken a photo from inside the car, came over and we were expecting him to ask for some money perhaps for taking the picture, but no, he wanted a cigarette!

Reading the story below, it all falls into place now, happy sheep, smoking shepherd!!  News headlines in Italy recently were "Polizia sequestra piante marijuana, pecore inseguono agenti" (Police Seize Marijuana Plants, Sheep Chase Them!).

Italian Recipe - Pork Fillets with Grapes, White Wine & Rosemary

RecipeYes. Pork and grapes in the same sentence. This recipe is a fresh touch on a dish that would otherwise be very meat heavy. The rosemary ads a magnificent taste to the fillets, and the grapes lift the entire dish by adding a fruity freshness - much like mint sauce to a roast. Absolutely wonderful dish.

Post Script   We were delighted to get news from Italy from our little house recently with some photos to show the progress on our house renovations.  Some of the old very low ceiling and doors in our foyer have gone and are now replaced with new walls waiting for our advice on choice of tiles and bathroom fittings!

Post Post Script  If you have been to the Island of Capri, you will be familiar with the famous blue and green grotto and the town of Capri itself.  But did you take the cable car up to the town of Anacapri? Our photo of the month was taken from the top of an ancient ruin in that area looking down to the azure Mediterranean.  Good to see this photo as a great reminder of summer just around the corner for us in the Southern Hemisphere!
