This is a gorgeous hand-painted Italian ceramic Biscotti jar with lid.  The design is 'Ghirighori' that is beautifully simple on a light cream background.  The ornate pattern with its fine lines has all been hand painted.  On the front of the jar is of course the label 'Biscotti' .  On each side there is a lion's head in green and two handles.

The mouth of the jar measures 100mm wide, so that is plenty enough to put your hand in and retrieve cookies!

On the base of the jar the artist has inscribed by hand the where the jar has been made and painted.  'MOD' stands for 'Majolica of Deruta' and 'Deruta Italy' followed by 'Dip. A Mano', which translates from Italian to 'Painted by Hand'.

This is a stunning example of some of the best hand painted Italian ceramics from the lovely Umbrian town of Deruta.

The jar measures 240mm in height to the top of the lid handle and and 170mm in diameter across the base and approximately 260mm from the nose of each of the lions.
