This is a gorgeous hand-painted Italian ceramic Biscotti jar with lid.  The design is 'Arabesque' and is quite striking, with an abundance of dark blue, yellow, and red flowers with some green leaves dotted on a white background.  Underneath the large 'Biscotti' label on a scroll type banner is a brown bird with green and blue wings .  On each side there is a lion's head in orange / yellow and two handles with blue edges and red bars on the white background..

The mouth of the jar measures 100mm wide, so that is plenty enough to put your hand in and retrieve cookies!  The jar measures 240mm in height to the top of the lid handle and and 170mm in diameter across the base and approximately 260mm from the nose of each of the lions.

On the base of the jar the artist has inscribed by hand the where the jar has been made and painted.  'MOD' stands for 'Majolica of Deruta' and 'Deruta Italy' followed by 'Dip. A Mano', which translates from Italian to 'Painted by Hand'.
